چکیده

The Java Media Framework (JMF) provides a rich set of functionality for building multimedia applications. Using the JMF to build simple multimedia applications is trivial; however, using the JMF to build more complex, interactive multimedia presentations is a much more difficult task. With the recently introduced integration of Tcl and Java, the Tcl language can now be extended to provide a scripting interface to complex Java libraries, such as the Java Media Framework. In this paper, we introduce a Tcl extension that provides a high-level scripting interface for building multimedia presentations on top of the Java Media Framework. In addition, some interesting problems in the current Tcl/Java package are highlighted and potential solutions are suggested. This paper will benefit Tcl programmers that would like to add multimedia support to existing applications, as well as those that would like to learn more about combining Tcl and Java.

A CORBA-based platform for distributed multimedia applications

As distributed multimedia applications are starting to be offered as services in enterprise and residential cable networks, there is a growing interest in platforms that provide a standard framework for the development and deployment of these applications. Key issues in platform design are service diversity, service portability and interoperability of user terminal equipment. We propose a platf...

A transitional framework for multi-user virtual environments

The creation of multi-user virtual worlds has been an area of much research and interest, yet the promise of having a ubiquitous network of such virtual worlds has still not become a reality. The reasons for this include the lack of flexibility in some solutions which are unable to cope with the highly domain-specific needs of Networked Virtual Environments (NVEs), the lack of commercial viabil...

Using Tcl to Control a Computer-participative Multimedia Programming Environment

This paper describes how the VuSystem, a programming environment for the development of computer-participative multimedia applications, is controlled through Tcl scripts. In the VuSystem, networks of in-band media-processing modules are created and controlled by interpreted out-of-band Tcl scripts through object commands and callbacks. Tcl's extensibility, simple type system, eecient interface ...
